Learn More About Corgipoos

  • Temperament

Corgipoos are people pleasers and tend to get along with everyone they meet. They love spending time with their family and get along great with kids. They are also friendly with other pets and get along well with strangers. They can get attached to their owners, and do not like being left alone for extended periods of time. If left alone, their usually cute mischievous behavior can become destructive. They are very intelligent and take to training well, but they should be trained early to prevent the crossbreed’s stubborn tendencies from developing.

  • Health

Corgipoos gain weight easily so owners should be careful to monitor their weight and prevent obesity. These dogs may develop hip dysplasia, Addison's disease, bloat, luxating patella, and legg-calve perthes disease.

  • Activity Level

They are high-energy, but only require a moderate amount of daily exercise to keep them happy. They love playing, and do best when their exercise involves mental stimulation. A few short walks or play sessions in the yard daily are usually enough to keep Corgipoos happy and healthy.

  • Grooming

The longer the Corgipoos coat, the more frequent brushing will be. Keeping your Corgipoo's coat trimmed short and groomed consistently will make their coat more manageable. You'll need to brush your Corgipoo on a daily basis to keep its coat healthy and tangle-free.

  • Shedding

Corgipoos that inherit the Poodle's curly coat will be light shedders. Because this breed is mixed with the Poodle it's considered hypoallergenic and a good fit for people with allergies.

  • Appearance

The Corgipoo is a small-sized dog, with a body that is more sturdy and stocky than it is long. The majority of Corgipoos have the body of a Welsh Corgi with the shaggy, silky coat of a Poodle. Their medium-length coats can be white, cream, black, brown, gray, or any combination of these.

  • History

The Corgipoo is a rare and recent hybrid breed between a corgi and a poodle, and like many hybrid breeds, its origins are unknown. Because they are such a new breed their puppies can be unpredictable, which is why you won't find them registered with AKC until there is more consistency within the cross breed. No single breeder has claimed to be the first to breed the Corgi and Poodle together, but it is assumed the first occurrence of the breed occurred in the late 1980s as people began experimenting with Poodle crossbreeds.
