Gerberian Shepsky Puppies

Like their German Shepherd parents, German Shepherd/Husky mixes are incredibly smart and alert dogs that love to work. Even at home, these dogs love having a job to do, and they can become quite bored and restless if not given enough mental and physical stimulation. The German Shepherd/Husky mix is a loyal family dog who gets along well with children and is very protective. Because of their intelligence and obedience, German Shepherd/Husky mixes are relatively easy to train and will catch onto commands quickly. Being a hybrid, Shepskys are generally healthier and live longer than other dogs. That being said, they still could be prone to medical conditions from either parent, like Patellar Luxation, Hip Dysplasia, Epilepsy, or Progressive Retinal Atrophy.

Your Shepsky is high energy and needs about one hour of mixed exercise per day. This can be a mix of a long walk to playing fetch in your yard. They don't do well in apartments because they need space to run around.

Shepskys should be brushed twice a week to reduce shedding and keep them clean. You should only bathe as needed, when they become smelly or especially dirty. Bathing too often can strip their coat of natural oils.

Gerberian Shepskys are about 20 to 25 inches tall. Their pointy ears stand erect. Their coat colors are often mixed and can range from brown, black, cream, white, red, and blue.

Often called the Gerberian Shepsky, the German Shepherd/Husky mix is a hybrid of two strong working dogs. While the histories of the German Shepherd and Siberian Husky are well-documented, this dog's origins are a bit of a mystery. It is likely that the German Shepherd/Husky mix came about during the 1980s or 90s, when people began to mix purebred dogs to create new breeds. These dogs became known as designer dogs, and among them was the Gerberian Shepsky. However, no one person can be credited with being the first to crossbreed a German Shepherd with a Husky. In any case, the German Shepherd/Husky mix quickly grew in popularity. Today, the breed is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC) and the Dog Registry of America (DRA).
