Goldador Breed Guide

Learn more about Goldadors

  • Temperament

The Goldador is a devoted family companion who especially loves to be around their people. Affectionate, loving, and happy, Goldadors are full of energy and love to play a game with you. Golden Labradors are very friendly and do well with children and other pets. They are easy to train as they are highly intelligent and eager to please.

  • Health

Like their parent breeds, Goldadors are generally healthy. They can be susceptible to hip and elbow dysplasia, cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and diabetes.

  • Activity Level

Goldadors are highly active as puppies needing about an hour or 2 of exercise every day including mental stimulation. As they mature as adults that time can be cut down to 30-60 minutes per day. They enjoy hiking, swimming, running, walks, and any kind of mental stimulation especially when it includes spending time with their family.

  • Grooming

Goldadors should be brushed weekly which will help with keeping their loose hair under control. When they shed more during seasonal shedding time, you may want to consider daily brushing for that period. Golden Labs need their ears cleaned and checked weekly to avoid ear infections. Their nails also need to be trimmed one to two times per month.

  • Shedding

Goldadors shed heavily year-round so they are not recommended for people with allergies.

  • Appearance

Goldadors will have a double coat that usually is thick, short, and straight with a dense, soft undercoat like the Labs. Their coat color can be yellow, reddish golden, golden, brown, or black.

  • History

The Goldador was created to be a sensitive, sturdy working dog. They get their sturdiness from the Labrador Retriever and their sensitivity from the Golden Retriever. They are excellent guide, therapy, and service dogs. They are also used in search and rescue missions and for bomb detection.
