  • Temperament

    Malshis are playful and affectionate toy-sized dogs. They are happy, loyal companions that make a wonderful family pet. Energetic and playful, they are also happy as a lapdog. They are a social dog that is friends with everyone they meet. The Malshi is a highly intelligent dog that yearns to please you, making them easy to train.

    The Malshi is generally healthy, though they may be susceptible to respiratory problems, patellar luxation, and eye problems.

  • Activity Level

    The Malshi needs some exercise which can be short walks or mental stimulation, such as playing fetch or playing with other interactive toys as they are highly intelligent.

  • Grooming

    Malshis should be brushed daily to keep their coat clean and free from mats and tangles. They should have regular trips to the groomer. Malshis also need their eye area cleaned regularly as they can be prone to tear stains.

    The Malti Zu usually sheds lightly and is considered hypoallergenic. They may still have dander.

    The Malshi has a long, silky coat that could be straight or wavy. Their color can vary from black, brown, white, and tan. They can be solid in color or a combo of several.

    The Malshi originates from Australia, where he was developed in 1990 as a small, hypoallergenic dog. He soon made his way to North America where he was immediately liked. Most often, you will find them as a first generation where both parents would be a purebred Maltese and purebred Shih Tzu. His sunny disposition with his friendly manners make him a popular and desired designer breed. They are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).
