The Puggle is an adorable, sweet, and cuddly small to medium sized designer dog breed mix between a Pug and a Beagle. The breed was developed in the 1980s by Wallace Havens from Wisconsin. Haven's aspiration was to develop a breed that combined the best qualities found in the Pug and the Beagle. The Pug is known to have a calm, friendly, and affectionate nature, whereas the Beagle is loyal, energetic, and easy-going. This cute, sociable, and gentle breed is excellent with the elderly, singles, new dog owners, and families. Their need to interact and play makes them a great breed for children, where they will bond closely with them. However, it is advisable to be very careful introducing new pets, and early socialization is suggested. The Puggle would be a great breed for apartment living but they do have a tendency to bark. If the Puggle does live in an apartment it is vital that they receive at least 30 minutes of exercise per day plus playtime. The breed does make a great watch dog due to the Beagle’s inherent tendency to bark. However, because the Puggle is a sensitive and sociable breed they may also bark a lot when left alone too long. This designer breed may also bark a lot if they are not mentally stimulated enough or if they are simply lonely and require their human family. They are very resilient, adaptable, and accommodating. Puggles are a great breed for many lifestyles, whether it is rural, suburban, or even the city, as long as they do get enough exercise. The Puggle is low maintenance and very easy to groom.
