Toy Fox Terrier Puppies

The Toy Fox Terrier is a little dog that's full of personality. While some of these dogs are fiesty and energetic, others are calm couch potatoes. No matter their personality, Toy Fox Terriers love nothing more than being around their human "pack" and being involved in everything they do. The TFT does well with children and other pets, making it a great choice for families. Training a Toy Fox Terrier is fairly easy, but it's not uncommon for these dogs to be a bit stubborn due to their terrier heritage. They're smart and eager to please, but can get bored easily. So, be sure to keep training sessions short and interesting.

Toy Fox Terriers are generally healthy but could be prone to Demodectic Mange, Patellar Luxation, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, Von Willebrand's Disease, or Congential Hypothyroidism with Goiter.

Toy Fox Terriers are energetic, but they are house dogs. They do well playing indoors with engaging toys and going on a daily walk. Whenever you take them outside, make sure they are leashed as their prey drive might cause them to chase after a squirrel.

Toy Fox Terriers don't need much grooming apart from the occassional brushing and bath, as needed.

Their short, smooth coat sheds a moderate amount.

The Toy Fox Terrier is a toy-sized breed, as its name suggests, and won't stand above a foot tall. Their coat can come in a variety of colors including, tricolor, white & tan, white & black, or white, chocolate & tan. Their ears stand erect and they have a long, narrow muzzle.

The Toy Fox Terrier is a direct descendent of the larger Smooth Fox Terrier, who was used by English farmers to chase rats and other small pests from barns. The Smooth Fox Terrier varied in size quite a bit, ranging from 7 to 20 pounds. Pet owners began to favor the smaller dogs, as they were feistier and more skilled at hunting game. in 1912, the United Kennel Club (UKC) began to register Smooth Fox Terriers of all sizes. However, during the mid-1920s, some owners petitioned for the UKC to make the smaller dogs a separate breed. The change took effect in 1936, and the smaller version of the Smooth Fox Terrier was registered as the Toy Fox Terrier by the UKC. The American Kennel Club (AKC) registered the breed in 2003.
