Fox Terrier (Smooth) Puppies

Smooth Fox Terriers are playful, independant, and confident. They are intelligent but stubborn and they need consistent training to break some of their bad habits. They love playing with children, but they have a tendency to bite when they get too into it. They love being the center of attention, and will usually be found following their owners around the house.

Smoth Fox Terriers typically have no major health issues, but on rare occasion, they could be subject to deafness, cataracts, Legg-Perthes disease, lens luxation, or hip dysplasia.

The Smooth Fox Terrier is high energy and loves to stay moving. They love playing games in a fenced in yard, and also enjoy long walks with their owner. If not in a fenced in yard they should always be on a leash because they have a tendency to chase small animals.

Smooth Fox Terriers should be brushed weekly to reduce shedding. Bathing them every month or two should be sufficient to keep their fur clean, unless they get themselves dirty by digging.

The Smooth Fox Terrier sheds a moderate amount. Brushing regularly can reduce shedding.

They have a dense, flat coat that is usually white with black and tan markings. They are most recognized for their v-shaped head, which is the biggest differentiation from their cousin, the Wire Coated Fox Terrier. They are compact and sturdy, with a tail that is typically docked by a quarter.

Smooth Fox Terriers rose to promenance when fox hunting became popular in the late 18th century in England. Their job was to enter fox dens and scare the foxes out. They started being showed in the mid-19th century and have become a consistently top-ranking breed in shows ever since. They've won more Best-in-Shows than any other breed in the Wesminster Kennel Club show. The Smooth and Wire Fox Terriers weren't recognized as seperate breeds until 1985.
